What is Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT)?
Equine Assisted Therapy sessions are an experiential form of therapy. They are different from the conventional therapy setting in that they work alongside horses from the ground. EAT sessions offer a variety of activities focussing on skills such as self-awareness, confidence and communication, which altogether help to promote physical and emotional well-being.
Why Horses?
Horses are flight animals, meaning they are very sensitive, intuitive beings who live in the moment. They can provide us with instant feedback on our behaviours, emotions, and body language. This encourages discussions on how they respond to our interactions, highlighting behaviours, creating self-awareness, and enhancing communication skills.
The horse offers a non-judgemental, no conditions partnership, allowing therapy clients to feel safe to be open about their experiences. Both horses and humans have a biological imperative to connect, with many studies showcasing that being around horses, releases endorphins, elevating your mood.
Here are some of the many benefits of EAT:
- Emotional awareness and regulation.
- Enhanced focus.
- Build on communication skills.
- Mood boosting.
- Growth in confidence
- Problem solving skills.
- Healthy challenges.
- Practicing vulnerability.
- Building trust and empathy.
- Calming.
- Bring you back into your body.
