It is with great sadness that we recently received the news that one of our longstanding volunteers passed away.
Margaret Jones passed away peacefully on Sunday 26th May. Both Margaret, and her husband Dewi, were long-term volunteers here at the Centre.
Margaret began volunteering at CSRC in 2006, as a side walker in RDA riding sessions run by Hope Mountain RDA Group and the Dyffryn Ceiriog RDA Group.
Following an unfortunate fall that broke her hip, she stepped back from helping in riding sessions, and instead used her prowess in the kitchen to provide warming lunches, including her famous baked potatoes, for all the volunteers of the Hope Mountain, Dyffryn Ceiriog and Wrexham RDA groups.
When her youngest granddaughter, Leah, joined the vaulting team at the Centre, Margaret and Dewi extended their volunteering to helping the vaulting team as well.
Both Margaret and Dewi were always willing to help at the Centre’s fundraising and social events, including preparing food for many North Wales RDA Regional meetings and training days. And while Margaret was in the kitchen, Dewi was often seen with tools in hand helping with maintenance jobs, until they both retired from volunteering a couple of years ago.
Margaret was very much part of the Centre’s life and will be sadly missed. She will always be remembered for her kind and caring nature, for her generosity and overwhelming support for the Centre and our participants.
Margaret’s funeral took place on Wednesday 19th June, and it was the family’s wish that donations from the service would come to the Centre. We are extremely grateful to have received £613. Thank you to everyone who donated.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dewi and his family.
